Junior kindergarten students in room 103 were fascinated with caterpillars. For our canvas creation, we decided to incorporate the Hungry Caterpillar and the various food items that it might eat on a night out. The border was created by all the students and parent volunteers in the class. The colourful dot border are fingerprints of some of the students in the class. The caterpillar and the yellow background was created by group of eager students who love to help!

While learning about the parts of a flower and how to grow them, we created these giant flowers in our class.  We were growing flowers in our own class greenhouse at the same time and, at the same time we thought about transplanting those flowers outside, we transplanted these flowers to canvas.  Each student helped make their own petal.

There was once a magic forest. It was always night. The queen of the forest

was the fox of the shadows. Magic animals, fairies and elves lived there. The

forest consisted of beautiful old trees and clear, blue rivers. The animals

ate and dansed under the moon. The creatures read in the trees and ate on

toadstool tables.

We brainstormed ideas for our canvas: Nature, ocean, sun and palm trees! We thought sunset could bring all our ideas together! That's how "Rêve du crépuscule" was born.

This piece looks at how the round shapes interact with each other. Our young artists discovered they could create a finished piece by collaborating with one another as opposed to working solely on their own circle. They experimented with techniques that allowed them to vary colour shape and line as well as playing with varied compositions.

Room 203's artists experimented with colour, and how the various blocks could blend in and join with one another. We learned how to "blur the lines" and use colour to add dimension and interest. The piece allows for added interest as each artist layered on their imprint. We love the end result!

Our class voted on Quincy K's idea for our canvas.  Les Souliers de la Salle 204 is influenced by a mix between Andy Warhol's pop-art with Kadinsky's circles. Students each had a background and shoe to paint. each background is a unique colour - no two are alike and the same goes for the shoes! The message behind the painting is that we are all unique in our own way but at the same time we have similarities.

Our class voted on Jesse L's idea for our canvas. There are different styles incorporated in the painting including comic book art and abstract expressionism. The symbol in the middle is of the Jedi resistance and the two ships represent opposite forces: good vs. evil. This piece speaks to the true Star Wars enthusiast and to those that recognize the force of good and evil in their own lives.

Neevee is our class mascot, and was a big part of our class community.  We had a class election, and she won by a landslide, against four other arctic animals. Neevee is an endangered Woodland Caribou. We "adopted" a Woodland Caribou from the World Wildlife Foundation, and spent the year reading and learning about the Woodland caribou, and what we could do to help them survive.  We love Neevee!

The children decided on painting a volcano for their canvas because they loved the volcano experiment we did in class. We decided we wanted to make our volcano look more spooky so we used a purple background and muted but colourful lava to be more creative. We splattered some gold paint at the end to add a tiny bit of sparkle.

"The students had many good ideas for our creation.  We decided at the end to create 15 irregular spaces.  Each student was able to express himself or herself, with no particular theme.  It is a short story of their life, at that particular moment, in April 2016."

The kids in room 208 were inspired by the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. We tried to recreate his style of abstract expressionism; but instead of using paint, we used tissue paper and sharpie markers. The title is "L'enfance de Kandinsky" (Kandinsky's Childhood).

"We combined our passion for trees with our passion for the environment and created this canvas.   Wine corks (unfortunately) can't be recycled.  Instead of throwing our corks in the garbage (to end up in a landfill somewhere), we saved them and used them to create this work of art."   Hence the title, ReDuce, ReUse, Re'Cork'.

The canvas for room 210 is heavily influenced by the work of the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. Our class became very interested in his paintings that used grids of vertical and horizontal black lines and three primary colours. Our canvas consists of 21 lines and 21 coloured spaces that reflect the 21 students in our class and our room number, 210.

Our class studied transformational geometry in math. A of a flat surface is the tiling of a plane using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps. In mathematics, tessellations can be generalized to higher dimensions and a variety of geometries. We created our tessellation with a series of cubes and triangles (Depending on how you look at it, it can also be a series of hexagons and triangles)

As you probably know by looking at our creation, the city before you, which we called Silhouette City is actually our home, the City of Toronto. You will notice many newspaper articles about Toronto. Lots of things happen here, so there's a lot to write about! Look at the buildings and you'll see the CN Tower, New and Old City Hall, the Rogers Centre, the Fairmont Royal York hotel and Lake Ontario at sunset. What a spectacular city we live in!

The challenge was to create the Canadian Flag using 21 geometric shapes. (1 for each student in the class) for each side of the flag and for the maple leaf.

The different shapes and colours represent the diversity of Canadian society. They combine to create harmony.

Every bubble is different and rises at different times, just like us. Everybody learns at a different paces. Everybody is unique and that makes us great.

The Handy Hands was created by the Grade 3 class in Room 313. It was inspired by artwork of Andy Warhol. Students worked very hard on the painting. Everyone's hand was traced, painted, and colour choices were made for each hand and box. We also got messy and painted our hands black to layer our hand prints for extra visual effect. We did all of this with the help of Ms. Tvrdy and some lovely parent helpers. We signed the painting with our thumbprints. When it was done, we felt really good.

Patterns exist in all parts of life, and at Jackman patterns in nature play a big part of our lives.

Our canvas was made after the grade 4 visit to the AGO, where each child made a linoblock inspired by various nature themed pieces of art that we saw there.  The linoblocks were used to make prints on paper while at the AGO and prints on canvas back at school.  It was a great way to extend our learning from the AGO and we think that it made a lovely masterpiece for some lucky person's home.

One day there were flowers in a garden. Theo came and watered them. The flowers grew and grew! The flowers turned into purple, pink, blue, red and orange. The sunshine came out and shined on the flowers. The flowers looked like a rainbow! Spring is awesome!

We have been studying the disappearance of honeybees due to a phenomenon called CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder). Due to many factors (use of pesticides, overbuilding, infection by pests…), hives are being abandoned and bees are dying in record numbers.Our use of translucent paper bees is meant to represent the ghostly spirits of the healthy bees that once lived in this hive – a hive that is now empty with the mere shadows of the creatures that once thrived there.

Shibori Pillow & Basket

The pillow measures 16x16 with a faux down insert. Faux down is hypo allergenic, so it is a good for those allergic to feather down, and is washable. The cover is made of 100% natural hemp and dyed with indigo, with an oatmeal coloured linen backing.

The basket measures 4” x 4” and is made of an organic linen and cotton blend with a canvas lining.
